What is a Text Diff Tool?
Text differencing compares two sequences of textual data to identify modifications, additions, and deletions. Traditional differencing relies on Longest Common Subsequence (LCS) models, comparing sequential lines to compute the minimal set of edit operations required to transform an original document into an updated version.
This tool splits both input blocks into line-by-line arrays in browser memory. It iterates through corresponding line indices, detecting added content (+ markers in green) and removed content (- markers in red), and presents a consolidated diff output displaying line numbers alongside changed text.
How to use it
- Paste your baseline text into the Original text... textarea on the left.
- Paste your modified text into the Changed text... textarea on the right.
- Click the Compare button to execute the line-by-line comparison.
- Review the highlighted diff results showing line numbers, addition markers (
+), and deletion markers (-).
Why use this over alternatives
Many online diff checkers transmit your text to remote backend servers to compute differences, creating security hazards when reviewing proprietary source code, database dumps, or API keys. This tool executes entirely within your browser's JavaScript runtime, ensuring that your text never travels across the network.
